HMRC resumes tax investigations after Covid-19

Blog

HMRC had an extremely busy time during the start of the Covid-19 lockdown as it rushed to roll out business support measures.  During that time, there was a short-lived pause in investigating tax issues.
Now however, investigations have resumed and HMRC are particularly looking to investigate improper use of the coronavirus support schemes, such as the furlough scheme and self-employed income support scheme.

HMRC can investigate any aspect of your tax affairs. Sometimes they have a reason to believe your affairs need looking into, but often they choose clients randomly.

Evans & Partners recommend Tax Investigation Insurance to all our clients, to protect against the accountancy costs incurred in the event of a tax investigation.  Contact us if you would like details.

Further information about an HMRC tax investigation, the process, how penalties are calculated can be found in our ACTIVE UPDATE: APU-Jul20-tax-investigations
